In an effort to catch up to the league’s current leaders Arsenal, Manchester City will host Liverpool in the early Premier League game on Saturday.
Despite the fact that City has a game in hand and Arsenal doesn’t play until this afternoon, the difference between Pep Guardiola’s team and the Gunners remains eight points. If the defending champions are able to defeat Liverpool, they will be able to put some pressure on Mikel Arteta’s squad.
The Reds’ lacklustre season has seen them eliminated from every cup tournament, leaving them with a difficult task to finish in the Champions League qualification spots. With two games remaining, Liverpool is currently sixth in the standings and seven points behind fourth-placed Tottenham. If Jurgen Klopp’s team wins tonight, it will be clear that they want to end the season strong and put more pressure on top-four opponents Tottenham and Newcastle.
Both managers are coping with critical staff injuries. Erling Haaland, a striker in good form, and Phil Foden, who left the England squad after having his appendix surgically removed, may both cause concern for Guardiola. Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic, two of Klopp’s midfielders, are out, but Darwin Nunez should be able to play.
