Russia just launched a significant drone attack on Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.
According to Vitaliy Klitschko, the mayor of Kiev, a man died when drone debris hit a petrol station nearby. A woman suffered harm.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, a total of 54 so-called kamikaze drones were launched by Russia at Ukrainian objectives, 52 of which were shot down.
Russia has intensified its attacks on Kyiv in an effort to overpower the city’s fortifications since beginning its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Air raid alerts were set out earlier on Sunday in 12 Ukrainian areas, from Dnipropetrovsk in the south-east to Volyn in the north-west.
Overnight, more than 40 drones were shot down over the city, according to Ukrainian authorities. No outside source has independently confirmed this data.
Mr. Klitschko claimed that at least two skyscrapers in various parts of the capital were on fire as a result of being struck by drone components that were falling to the ground.
Officials in Kiev also claimed that warehouses in the Holosiyivsky area of southern Kiev had been set on fire.
As citizens prepared to celebrate Kyiv Day, a popular celebration prior to the war that commemorates the city’s establishment 1500 years ago, several politicians accused Russia of purposely attacking Kyiv.
West of Kiev, in the city of Zhytomyr, there were other reports of explosions.
It was initially yellow, then a brilliant orange, and finally a blinding white. The BBC quoted her as saying, “It was so dazzling that I couldn’t see anything in the flat. It also got very quiet after the flashes, and the sound of the explosions came “two or three seconds following the flash.” The sound was as loud as thunder.
“Those two or three seconds felt like a very long time,” she remarked. “The brilliant light faded into complete blackness. I wanted to inspect the area for damage. I was unable to comprehend what had occurred. I was so shocked that I had no fear. I had no idea if my flat and I were alright.
Anastasiia claimed that she didn’t know she was still alive until she heard the sound of passing cars’ alarms. “This is what it really means when people read in the news that drones have been intercepted. I eventually went back to sleep until a friend brought me breakfast, at which point I learned how important it is to cherish each and every minute of life.
Russia has been employing a variety of cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as so-called kamikaze drones, in its recent attacks.
Russian assaults on Kyiv and other cities have become more frequent as Ukraine intensifies its preparations for a counteroffensive.
One of Ukraine’s top security officials told the BBC on Saturday that the nation was prepared to begin such an operation.
An assault to recover land from President Vladimir Putin’s invading forces might start “tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, or in a week,” according to Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of the influential National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine.
