Tennessee’s NASHVILLE – On Tuesday, authorities unveiled graphic police body camera footage from a shooting spree at a nearby Christian elementary school that left three children and three staff members dead.

Late on Monday, police released more than two minutes of surveillance video, and on Tuesday, cops who confronted the shooter released six minutes of body camera footage. Most of them were from Officer Rex Engelbert’s body camera.

The video shows police entering the school and yelling “Metro Police” as they approach. Some classrooms can be seen with weapons lifted as alarms sound.

As they go up the stairs and hear shooting above, a cop replies, “It seems like it’s upstairs.” The confrontation in the upstairs lobby is where the film comes to an end. Shots were fired at the assailant, who then fell, as people shouted “stop moving,” “suspect down,” and “get your hand away from the pistol.”

“IT WAS REALLY HORRIFIC,” says Nashville following a shooting spree

According to the nonprofit organisation tracking data on gun violence, Gun Violence Archive, the act was the 129th mass shooting in the country in 2023. According to the K-12 School Shooting Database, the assault also represents the 89th gunshot on K—12 school grounds in 2023 – an average of one every day.

When schoolchildren and caretakers are the targets of senseless gun violence, Nashville District Attorney Glenn Funk stated, “This is the ultimate crime.”
