How can I share images without revealing where I am? How to protect your privacy?

How can I share images without revealing where I am? How to protect your privacy?

Representational Image

You start a text discussion after meeting someone fresh on a dating app. Everything is going fine, then one morning you email a photo of the dawn. Unharmful, right? Boom! You might have just revealed where you are in detail.

Our technology keeps track of all kinds of information on who we are, where we are, what we’re doing, when we’re doing it, etc. Think someone is being unfaithful? Tech also leaves these traces.

Our services and apps also keep track of our location. You can stop that from happening.

Let’s check your photos to make sure you aren’t divulging more information than you intended.

All of it is in the metadata.
Your phone saves metadata for each image you take. This contains information such as the gadget you used to take it, your camera settings, the data, and the location where you took it. EXIF data is another name for this.

Sending a photo you took in a public space to someone? Not a major issue. What happens if you send multiple photos from the same location? Anyone with access to this information now knows where you live.

How to stop revealing too much
On the iPhone, stop sharing your location:

Tap the share button (which resembles a square with an arrow pointing up) after opening the picture you wish to share.
Next, choose Options and turn Location off.
You may also completely turn off location tracking on your camera because it’s annoying to have to do it for every photo.

Launch the Settings app.
Select Location Services > Privacy.
When you reach the bottom, hit Camera, then choose Never.
Here’s how to delete a single photo on Android:

open your photo library, choose the image,
Remove location data can be done by going to Details (which may be a three-dot menu).
Do this to permanently stop your location from appearing in photos:

Go to the settings for the Camera app.
Disable the location setting.
